Treatability Studies

For Biological, Physical and Chemical Treatment Processes

Performing a treatability study during the early stages of design is crucial in determining the specific technologies required for a system to meet remedial and compliance goals.  Because the range of waste streams is extremely wide and no single treatment step can be used in every process, BAI offers cost-effective bench and pilot scale treatability studies that are custom-tailored to the specific streams and process conditions of interest to our customers.

The phases of a typical treatability study include:

  1. Identifying the remedial and compliance goals for the project
  2. Collecting and analyzing representative samples of raw water to identify contaminants of concern and pertinent treatment technologies to be tested.
  3. Working with our clients to design the testing protocol.
  4. Designing the test apparatus and obtaining necessary materials.
  5. Developing the testing program in cooperation with our clients.
  6. Conducting the test while communicating with our clients throughout the test program.
  7. Preparing detailed reports to present the findings in a format that is acceptable to our clients.

Using samples of representative wastewater (either provided by the client or by preparing simulated wastewater) BAI performs treatability studies for a wide range of biological, physical and chemical treatment methods and technologies.

The outcome of these studies:

  • Establishes representative, baseline influent concentrations;
  • Provides the basis for system design – treatment technologies, electrical, automation, mechanical;
  • Determines operational data for full scale operation of the treatment systems (e.g detention times, chemical dosage rates, etc.);
  • Provides data to estimate on-going operations & maintenance costs;
  • Provides the basis for the preparation of a P&ID that supports the conceptual design
  • Identifies alternate treatment technologies that may have potential technological or cost advantages;

All data, analytical results and treatability study outcomes are proprietary information and are strictly confidential between BAI and our client.

Our skilled professionals perform these studies at the laboratory in BAI’s Lakewood office and we can also complete the studies at remediation sites or our customer’s facility.

If you are in the design phase of constructing a treatment system and need to complete a treatability or pilot scale study, contact BAI online or at 732.730.8526 and let us put our experience and expertise to work for you.

Our People BAI strives to offer common sense solutions to water pollution control problems that result in lower project life-cycle costs, excellent compliance records and superior performance.   Our extensive practical experience in management, process, construction, electrical, mechanical, operations and technical services allows us to address problems from a different perspective.  We focus on getting the right things done correctly, efficiently, within budget and on time.
